Finally some pictures from San Diego!

I guess we have been back 2 weeks now since our little trip to San Diego. We really loved it there, so beautiful and the weather couldn't have been better. The daily temperature was anywhere from 65 -75 degrees with no humidity! Most people don't even use air conditioning and just open their windows. We went into our trip with no real schedule/plans and figured we would just take it easy and see what came our way. Both of us wanted to relax and enjoy our freedom while we could. We spent a couple of days just being lazy by the pool at the hotel and a couple at the beach. We rented a car, but barely used a quarter of the tank the whole time.

We actually stayed in La Jolla which is about 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego. This town is great and once you were there everything was within walking distance of the hotel. We ventured out a few times in the rental car, but most of our time was spent in La Jolla.

Pic of us in front of the hotel after having dinner one evening. It actually got cool enough at night to wear a jacket.

The view "not from our room", but from the hotel looking down to the Pacific ocean!

Looking back at the hotel from the ocean.

La Jolla Cove -- This is a semi-protected cove right behind our hotel where tons of people would play and go for long distance swims in the ocean. The water temp was 70 degrees, so a little chilly for us Texas folks! All the locals didn't seem to be bothered at all by the cold water.

Another view of La Jolla cove. The day after we arrived there was a huge open water swim meet. There were little kids up to adults racing around in the water.

We really enjoyed eating out for all our meals. So nice to have so many choices unlike back home and not to have to clean up afterwards was awesome! This was a yummy dinner where we got to watch the sunset! Most every restaurant had some kind of outdoor seating which we took advantage of whenever possible!

Two of our favorite places we ate during our trip. Upstairs was a great italian place and down was a fondue restaurant. We also ate sushi twice during our trip, we miss it so much!

Neither of us had ever done the fondue thing. Soooo awesome, but of course we ate way too much!

One of our days spent by the pool at the hotel. We enjoyed the heated pool and the hot tub! We both enjoyed $11 dollar a piece frozen drinks (miami vice's, to be exact)... Let's just say we didn't eat/drink at our hotel again because it was expensive.

A pic from one of our many walking adventures!

A picture of us taken on Coronado island with downtown San Diego as our back drop.

Niki found this house about a mile from our hotel and just fell in love with it! Pretty sweet, the back of the house drops off into the Pacific.

She also found this retirement community right on the water. Apparently, I am supposed to send her there someday!

This area is called "Children's Pool" because the retaining wall was built to make it safe for kiddos to play on the beach and not get smashed by the waves. Sadly, the beach has been taken over by seals so noone can really use it! Although we enjoyed getting pictures of the seals from up close!

The waves were constantly rolling in and crashing as we would walk along.

The outdoor mall in downtown San Diego. This was a big hit with Niki! Of course they had an Ann Taylor Loft.

We spent a couple of days on Coronado island which is just south of downtown San Diego. This is one beautiful place. Huge, clean beaches you could relax on all day long! There is a Naval base on the island so as we were laying on the beach helicopters and jets flew over us to the airport nearby. It pretty much felt like we were in the movie "Top Gun". Niki was able to "check out" some Navy seals who jogged by us on the beach.

This the Hotel Del Coronado. A really old, historic hotel right on the beach. If we ever go back I think we would stay here. We did a little snooping around the property and it looked pretty awesome.

A special bonus we had on our trip was visiting with an old friend from college and her kiddos. I probably haven't seen Jeni for ten years so it was really nice to get to see her. I especially enjoyed spending time with her two boys, Christian and Eamon. Jeni's husband is in the Navy jag corps and lives on an aircraft carrier for 4 - 6 months at a time. I was able to give her boys some much needed guy time and give Jeni a "day off" of sorts. We had a great time with them. Being with those two made us miss Taryn just a little bit.

Jeni, the boys and I checking out a ship coming into port. The water was really cold... apparently it did not phase the boys one bit.

Niki and I with Christian and Eamon! Eamon is glued to the video game...

Jeni, what happened we never ended up with any pictures of you and I?

Nevermind the above comment, thanks for sending one my way Jeni!

Looks fun! And it's not so bad getting back in the trenches when you've got such a sweet little man to come home to!
